Volvo showed the Lounge Console concept at the Shanghai International Auto Show in April. The concept replaces the usual front passenger with multi-purpose stand. Considering this idea, the Swedish automaker launched the concept of the child seat, replacing the front passenger seat. Designers believe that this solution will provide better access to the child, as well as extra space and safety.

In the current model, the child seat is placed back-seat, facing forward. It means that the passenger cannot be close to the child without turning back or to the side. Moreover, according to the Volvo, the baby's head is exposed to greater risk in accidents because their neck muscles are not yet sufficiently strong to cope with such loads. Passenger and child are facing each other, the latter deployed his back to the dashboard. Even if in the car there are only the driver and the child it is much easier to see the baby and take care of him during the ride. The front passenger seat unit was installed to accommodate the children's car seats for babies. The block is mounted so that it can expand to the door to quickly remove the child from it. Swivel mechanism allows the seat to rotate counter-clockwise, or lock it in one position.

The automaker has considered the modern safety requirements, which covers that a child should go back to the direction of travel at least until 3-4 years. At this age, a child's neck muscles are weak and the head is disproportionately large and heavy in relation to the body.
