It has been already proven that car makers can develop a convincing car via mixing of size and layout of 4-door with a sport style of a coupe. They attempt to combine SUV or crossover size and functionality with coupe-like models.

Specifically, Audi tried to reduce roofline and add more "defined muscles". As a result, they got a mixed model, in fact the best that can be expected. The e-tron Sportback is good at some points, though the car generally looks as sports sedan uncomfortably put on SUV foundation.

With 193 in long and 78 in wide, the concept is slightly bigger the 2015 e-tron Quattro.
This is not just a shift from the 2015 project, and covers more than just roofline reduction and size revision. In fact, Audi reworked the entire front-end, abandoning traditional style in favour of more electric identity. The company has changed the single frame grill with a broad panel.

Similar to the original e-tron quattro, the Sportback is powered with AWD combination of single front-axle motor and rear-axle motors, delivering 429 hp (320 kW) at normal mode and up to 496 hp (370 kW) at boost-mode; 0-62 mph is 4.5 sec, faster than the original project.
The engine represents a 95-kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery offering the range of some 310 mi per charge. Charging capabilities involves AC and DC connections.
As for the interior, Audi keeps expanding to digitized design. However, the digital technologies should be excessive in the car – compared to the common features, displays and other hi-tech can be too expensive in terms of servicing and repairs, which can affect impression even of the biggest tech fans.

In particular, the concept carries a 10-in infotainment and navigation OLED touchscreen in the center of the panel, with OLED auxiliary control system being installed below. Moreover, the team introduced a touchscreen to the left and another touch surface on the steering wheel.

The passengers can also enjoy touch technologies at door-integrated displays.
"We have made a conscious decision to give the Audi e tron Sportback its first showing here in Shanghai because China is the world's leading market for electric automobiles," commented Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter, member of Audi AG's board of management for marketing and sales. "That applies as much to the infrastructure and financial support as it does to sales. There are already about 150,000 charging stations in the country, with another 100,000 due to come on stream by the end of 2017. In the next five years, we will be offering five e tron models in China, including purely battery-powered vehicles with ranges well in excess of 310 miles, such as the Audi e tron Sportback."
